Teachers stage demonstrations for job regularization.
Thousands of contractual high school teachers on Monday staged a protest in front of the assembly alleging discrimination by the state government. While the state has abolished contractual appointments, the teachers claimed their jobs are yet to be regularized even after completing six years of service.
"After the chief minister announced abolition of the contractual system, all departments have regularized the jobs of contractual employees. It is only the school and mass education department which has not been regularizing our jobs," said Panchanan Jena, President of the agitating teachers' association, adding, we will join work only after our demands are fulfilled."

According to them, there are around 20,000 contractual teachers working in different high schools who were appointed in 2016 and have completed six years of probation after which they should have been regularized as per provisions.A delegation of agitating teachers discussed their issues with authorities of the school and mass education department, but there was no headway."During the meeting, senior officers of the department said the matter is under process, but could not explain why it is taking so much time when all other departments have completed the process. We decided that we will continue our strike till the government issues notification regularizing our jobs," Jena pointed out.
