No basic facilities in anganwadi centers in rural areas.
More than 80% anganwadi centers in the rural areas of the state lack basic toilet facilities while over 71% of them do not have access to safe drinking water,a study has found.
The study was carried out by Atmashakti Trust,an NGO,in collaboration with Odisha Shramajeebee Manch and Mahila Shramajeebee Manch at 7.694 anganwadi centers in 9.856 villages under 89 blocks of 15 districts, including Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Kandhamal,Boudh,Nuapada and Balangir.

The study revealed that as many as 2.148 centers do not have any drinking water facilities while 3,351 have them in place but they are defunct.Data suggests that 5,499 , about 71,47% of the total number surveyed,do not have access to safe drinking water.
Similarly,as many as 3,296 anganwadi centers do not have any toilet while out of 4,668 which have toilets, in 3,158 of them they are non-functional.About 81.04% of the anganwadi centers surveyed lack basic toilet facilities.The study further found that 2,484 anganwadis do not have kitchens.

The study also found that out of the 9,856 villages,1,894 do not have any centers while out of the 7,964 centers surveyed,it was found that 1,045 of them do not have their own building.As per norms,for a population of 400 and 150 people,there is need for an center and a mini center.
The findings of the study were shared with state Integrated Child Development Scheme and social welfare director Aravind Agrawal,he said that infrastructure for centers is being created in a phased manner."We will look into the study findings and take steps to address the issues.The district collectors will also be asked to look into the matter," Agrawal said.
