No aspirant from govt center cleared UPSC.

   

      Not a single aspirant who received coaching for UPSC civil services examination from the state government has cracked the exam,higher education minister Rohit Pujari informed the assembly here .

    Only one candidate,who had undergone coaching at a government backed center, cleared the civil services preliminary examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in 2020,said the minister in his reply.

   Earlier,IAS coaching was being provided to aspirants in universities.The coaching started from 2016-17 and continued till 2018-19.

    In December 2021, former higher education minister Arun Kumar Sahoo had told the assembly about the state government spending around Rs 2.42 crore towards IAS coaching of poor meritorious students since 2016-17 through universities and private coaching institutes.

    The higher education department had released Rs 1.82 crore to eight universities in 2016-17 and 2017-18 to run their civil service coaching centers.

       It had sanctioned Rs 30 lakh to Utkal University,Rs 10 lakh to Fakir Mohan University, Balasore,Rs 12.5 lakh to North Odisha University and Rs 26 lakh each to Berhampur University, Sambalpur University,Ravenshaw University Cuttack,Rama Devi Women's University, Bhubaneswar and GM University, Sambalpur.

     After finding no success, the department had inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Dhyeya Educational Services Private Limited on March 7,2019, to provide Civil service coaching to candidates.In the first batch,99 candidates had taken admission.The government had spend Rs 60 lakh for the coaching, official sources said.

    Sahoo had then told the assembly that his department did not have year-wise data regarding candidates who were successful.

   Pujari said the state government has again started a free civil services coaching programme for aspirants.The ACQ IAS Academy Consortium will provide the coaching to 200 aspirants in Bhubaneswar.They will be selected from an entrance examination to be held on March 26,he added.
