Researchers at Indian Knowledge Systems(IKS) under the All India Council of Technical Education(AICTE) are working on textbooks for schools incorporating learnings from India's rich past as part of NEP 2020.
"After studying Saddhanta Darpana, written by Odisha astrologer Samanta Chandra Sekhar, we built instruments he had developed centuries ago to study astronomy and mathematics. We developed their prototypes and they will come in a compass box. These instruments are very interesting children can use them to easily measure the angle between two celestial bodies. It also has a sundial and gnomon that helps in knowing the direction and latitude," said Deepak Kumar Pattnaik, senior research assistant at IKS.

The research scholars are also engaged in preparing science textbooks in Odia for classes VI, VII and VIII by deciphering the Sanskrit s slokas and verses from the ancient Beads and scriptures.
"Due to Western influence and various other reasons, works of ours. ancient scholars and mathematicians have not been decoding or popularized among the masses. Our Vedas and scriptures are a storehouse of scientific knowledge and through various projects, IKS is working on reviving this traditional knowledge and simplifying them for the younger generations", shad Nachiketa Khamari Sharma, principal investigator of the project.
