Textbook to promote interfaith bonhomie.

   To quell misconceptions and promote interfaith bonhomie, the National commission for Minorities (NCM) is working on finalizing the drafts of what could take the shape of a textbook for schoolchildren with basic information on all six recognised minority religions and Hinduism.

      There are six religions in India that have been awarded the national minority status —-Islam, Christianity, Sikhism, Jainism, Buddhism and Zoroastrianism (Parsis).

        Speaking on the sidelines of a day-long conference of state minorities commissions,NCM chairman Iqbal Singh Lalpura elaborated that the commission plans to send the draft to the PMO once it is finalized and recommend that the government consider making the book part of school curriculum,so that children understand the basic idea,rituals and history of various religions."The members of the commission are working on finalizing the draft,"Lalpura said.

    As part of efforts to prevent miscreants from spreading communal hatred,NCM has also written to Union home minister Amit Shah, seeking that directions may be given to the state's for measures to create a mechanism to check isolated vigilante groups to prevent them from creating communal disharmony.

   In a bid to expand the outreach of the commission and address grievances of minority communities,NCM is also working on an all."Soon we will bring all that will allow people to register their concerns and complaints from anywhere and at any time.We want the Commission to be more accessible to communities and update them about all that we are doing,so that they have the information readily available on their phones," the NCM chief added.
