Influenza B virus in Odisha.

  Soaring cases of Influenza B virus in Bhubaneswar and elsewhere in the state is emerging as a major health challenge with doctors blaming the pandemic as a major cause behind it.

    Health officials said the Covid pandemic kept people indoors intermittently in different waves over the past two-and-a-half years and prevented their exposure to the environment.

   "The body has forgot how to defend the Influenza B, which is good or as bad as any flu.Several viruses are now infecting people and they need to maintain discernibility on medicine to be used.They should keep hydrated and eat healthy food,"said Dr Sampat Dash, senior pulmonologist.

        Influenza virus, especially B causes upper respiratory difficulties while influenza-A also causes complications in lower respiratory tract.

     "It (influenza B) can cause reactive airway Dysfunction Syndrome (RADS) that lasts for three weeks and people have a jerking cough.There is nothing, no panic," Dash added.

    Airway Dysfunction Syndrome (RADS),an abnormal hyper responsiveness of the airway following viral infection, is being seen as a post-Covid complication in the third wave,doctors said.

   Doctors said if patients complaining of mild breathlessness, wheeziness, congestion in airway and breathing out, they should consult doctors get medication under their supervision.Though it is a self-limiting disease (can Health with time) and people themselves can Health by natural ways like breathing exercise, exposure to sun and cleaner air.
