The Barabati stadium,known to host international cricket matches, will be the venue for the opening ceremony with a host of Bollywood and local celebrities taking the stage.On Tuesday, the state government Declared half-day holiday in schools and colleges so that children can enjoy the opening ceremony.
From hosting the World Cup for a second consecutive time to constructing the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium In Rourkela in a record 15 months it has been a dream ride for the state government. On Tuesday,hundreds of youths from Sundergarh met the chief minister and thanked him for promoting the game.Many sports lovers from Cuttack also met the chief minister and thanked him for selecting Barabati Stadium for the grand opening ceremony.
Across the state excitement has reached fever pitch with hockey enthusiasts having transformed Odisha into a celebration ground.We are super excited for the opening ceremony as it will be grand and full of entertainment, said Lipika Swain a college student from Jajpur district.
LCD screens in 6,700 panchayat.
Not just in cities,people living in villages will also enjoy the hockey matches.The government has made arrangements for setting up giant LCD screens to watch the opening ceremony and hockey matches in over 6,700 gram panchayats,an official source said.Besides,all degree colleges and universities have been asked to livestream the opening ceremony and matches.
We have got a new LCD screen,projector and cable connection to livestream the opening ceremony and hockey matches.Each degree college has given Rs25,000b for the purpose, said Deepak Behera,a teacher at MPC Autonomous College in Bari padang.
The World Cup trophy tour has been getting rousing response from districts with a series of cultural events held in different towns and cities across Odisha.
