Covid rules in schools after winter.
After the winter vacation, schools will reopen with new Covid guidelines in the New Year in view of Omicron's new variant BE.7 triggering a massive surge in some countries and the center alerting states to take steps to check the spread of infection. Masks for children may be made mandatory in schools.Schoolchildrens of all classes should wear a mask after the schools reopen.The health department has issued an advisory and that is enough to take the precaution of wearing one.Moreover,children have not taken any Vaccine said mass education Minister Samir Ranjan Das.
When the fourth wave had hit the state in July,epidemiological and pulmonologists felt that school children were the carriers of the virus.They were going to school and infecting others back home.After the third wave triggered by Omicron's BA.2 variant fizzled out in March,schools had opened in April.But the fourth hit after three months.The government hospitals,including that of three medical colleges across the state,will conduct monk drills to ensure operational readiness to tackle a possible surge.Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will review the preparedness.
The CM is likely to interact with the chief district medical officers,heads of medical colleges, health experts and doctors from community medicines and health administrators.
Dr Jayant Panda,professor medicine,SCB Medical College and Hospital,Cuttack, who was earlier the government's technical advisor on Covid-19,said a rehearsal will be conducted across the three medical college hospitals,Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar, and district headquarters Hospital to see readiness in terms of oxygen supply,general,ICU and HDUbeds,investigation units and drug inventory.It will be an exercise to create a real-time situation of examination ing and admitting a patient coming up with symptoms.It will be seen whether to treat him or her in the hospital, send to dedicated Covid ward,admit to ICU or HDU panda said.
Director of health services,Bijaya Mohapatra,said there is no need to panic and there is no evidence to suggest that the virus is virulent.

Amid fears of a possible surge in Covid-19 cases owing to the Omicron subvariant-BE7- students are apprehensive about the situation when schools reopen after the winter vacation in January and examinations are held in February-March.
Students, through fine with adhering to the safety norms during exams,are apprehensive of schools being shut and online classes making a comeback.We are fine with wearing masks during exams and in classrooms as well.Going by our previous experience, the government had changed the exam schedule and the evaluation system when the number of cases was high.So,it won't be a problem if the virus strikes again,Akash Sahu a Class X student said.
I hate those days when we were not able to go to school, not able to meet our friends or go out to play.We are ready to wear masks and maintain social distancing but I hope that schools do not ask us to sit at home and attend online classes again,a class VII student, Aryan Mishra said.
Back when the pandemic was at its peak, we faced difficulties as we had to make a sudden shift to online class.Now that things are back to normal and children have become accustomed to going to school once again,the cases are rising again,the cases are rising again. Hope the Covid scenario doesn't become severe, and we can continue coming to school, Madhumita Rout,who teaches at a school here,said.
School and mass education Minister Samir Ranjan Das, however, said there was no reason to be apprehensive.

He added, Depending on the center's direction,we will accordingly issue guidelines to the schools.
Earlier, the board exams of classes X and XII in 2020 and in 2021 were canceled due to a surge in Covid cases.
