After his doctoral studies, Dr. Mohanty served as a Scientific Officer at the Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC) until 2012. 

During this period, he undertook a post-doctoral fellowship at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in 2006–2007. 

His association with international collaborations is noteworthy; he played pivotal roles in the STAR Experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory, USA. 

His contributions include serving as the Physics Analysis Coordinator and later as the Deputy Spokesperson for the STAR Experiment.

In 2012, Dr. Mohanty joined NISER as an Associate Professor and later became a full Professor. 

He also held the position of Chairperson of the School of Physical Sciences from 2013 to 2018 and currently serves as the Dean of Faculty Affairs at NISER.
