Multidisciplinary edu under NEP.

The state government is surpassing the targets set for different higher education institutions and universities in implementing various components of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, according to data released during a meeting of East and Central zone states.

    The meeting was organized by the ministry of Education on the status of the implementation of NEP 2020.

As per data, the state had set a target to introduce multidisciplinary education at 12 universities and 363 higher educational institutions. So far multidisciplinary education has been introduced at 14 universities and 363 higher educational institutions.

     Similarly, it has set a target to introduce courses in Indian languages at 16 universities and 363 higher educational institutions. According to the data, the component has been implemented at 14 universities and about 1,000 higher educational institutions.

    The state has also set up collaboration of 14 universities with foreign higher educational institutions for academic activities and research. In ranking excellence, the same has been implemented at eight universities so far.

    "We have been implementing the components of NEP at the government as well as private institutions. We are at present ahead of our counterparts. We are taking steady steps for smooth implementation of the policy in the state," higher education department secretary Bishunpada Sethi said.

    The state, however, is lagging in a few comments of NEP such as setting up alumni connect, adopting multiple entry and exit systems, introducing a credit framework, setting up research and development cells and creating industry-institute linkage, among others.

The ministry has been tracking the implementation of NEP 2020 with states and Union Territories at regular intervals. Accordingly, the last zonal meeting was held in January 2022, when the states specified their targets.
