Walked 28 KM to the wedding venue for marriage.Due to Drivers strike.

     Strike or no strike, Naresh praska decided that his marriage would take place as scheduled even if he had to walk 28km throughout the night to reach the bride's village.

   Naresh is a resident of Partibeda village under Sunakhandi panchayat in Kalyansingpur block of tribal-dominated Rayagada district.

     Sources said Naresh's barat was supposed to go to Dibalpadu village in the same district for his wedding.

   While all customary rituals at the groom's home were completed and the  baarat was all set to start their journey, drivers of the hired private vehicles refused to come following which the family decided to cover the distance on foot.

   "We had hired at least four Boleros for the  and had decided to leave for the bride's village at 4pm.However,our entire itinerary went haywire when the drivers refused to come on, the second day of the strike,"said Naresh.

    "As all our rituals at home were completed and our marriage was fixed for 3.30am ,we were left with no other option but to walk to the bride's village,"he added.

     According to Naresh,while a few pieces of luggage and items required for the marriage were transported in two-wheelers to the bride's village, the  baarat consisting of around 30 members covered the distance on foot.

     "We started our journey around 6pm and reached Dibalpadu at 2am.The marriage was solemnized on the appointed time,"said Naresh.

    "It was a fun-filled journey and no one was stressed as in our tribal community where we are all used to walking long distances," he added.The incident has become the talk of the entire district.
