Heatwave on more days during the summer months, Said IMD.
There is likely to be a higher chance of heatwaves on more days during the summer months (from March to May) this year compared to last year,the IMD said.
H R Biswas,head of the regional IMD center here said," Though heat wave chances are more during the summer,in March its occurrence would likely be less.Similarly rainfall during March is expected to be normal ."
The IMD in its latest extended range forecast valid for two weeks till March 9 also forecast that day temperature at several places would continue to remain above normal by 2-4 degrees Celsius during the period, Biswas said.
He added that for the next four -five days there are chances of gradual rise in mercury level too.
Former director of the regional IMD center Sarat Chandra Sahu said the prevailing trend of day and night temperatures would continue for a week.He further forecast that there is no possibility of abnormal high temperature up to March 10.
Recently, Sonepur at 37.7 degrees Celsius and Boudh at 37.5 degrees recorded the day's highest and second highest temperature in the state.The City recorded a maximum temperature of 36.7 degrees Celsius.
With the IMD predicting hot days ahead,the state government is planning to gear up its preparation to tackle the possible situation,said a senior officer at the office of the special relief commissioner(SRC).
