Odisha state government allocated Rs 16,048 crore budget to public healthcare.


   The post-Covid state budget gave a huge push to public healthcare with an allocation of Rs 16,048 crore to the sector.It has put emphasis on transformation of public health facilities by spending Rs 750 crore apart from allocating funds for different ongoing schemes.


   This year's allocation for health sector is about three times of the outlay in 2017-18.The allocation includes provision of Rs 3,725 crore under administrative expenditure and Rs 12,031 crore under programme expenditure.The provision under programme expenditure has been substantially increase by 33% over the last year's budget estimates.


   A new scheme called AMA Hospital was introduced in the budget.It has set an ambitious target to transform 147 health facilities in a period of 9 months, with an outlay of Rs 750 crore, Under this scheme,the physical health infrastructure,basic patient amenities and service delivery system in the public health facilities like community health centers, sub-divisional hospital and district headquarters hospitals will be upgraded .


   The state plans to establish 11 centers in three phases with an indicative estimated cost of Rs 1,046 crore to provide cancer care like chemotherapy,onco-surgery, radiotherapy and palliative care to the patients.A sum of Rs 211 crore has been proposed for establishment of cancer care centers in the budget for 2023-24.


      The state has undertaken an ambitious target of reducing the average response time of ambulances from 30 minutes to 20 minutes.


    For this,the state will induct 236 new ambulances into the fleet, for which a budgetary provision of Rs 250 crore has been proposed for the financial year 2023-2024.
