Former chief Minister Biju Patnaik's aircraft, Dakota, arrived in the city on Wednesday evening from Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata.
The dismemberment wings of the plane and its fuselage were brought to the Biju Patnaik International Airport(BPIA) on three trucks where Biju's son and CM Naveen Pattnaik welcomed it by showering flower petals.The legendary aircraft of Biju Babu has finally returned to Odisha. He had many historic moments in this aircraft, the greatest of which was when he flew to Indonesia to rescue the Indonesian freedom fighter.
Initially,the aircraft will be kept at the BPIA's government hangar where all its parts will be re-assembled and its exteriors will be given a fresh coat of painting.In March, it will be brought to the designated display site in front of terminal one,which is located in front of the new domestic terminal outside the airport's operational area. The plane is likely to be inaugurated on Biju's birth anniversary on March 5.The government is planning to build a mini walk through museum at the display site,sources said,the details of which are likely to be revealed shortly.
The museum will depict the young days of Biju when he flew the aircraft,his adventure stories and pictures and tales of high-risk missions.
